50 Personal Writing Prompts to Inspire your next journal entry or memoir session.

Last week we went over the importance of writing and how to encourage and foster success in your child’s writing development. We wanted to provide some additional writing prompts to help inspire your child’s creativity in writing, and perhaps even your own if you are looking for an outlet to build upon your creativity. These prompts are all personal and work best for journaling or memoir writing.

Journaling is a great way to encourage writing as it can be a daily, weekly, or whenever you feel like it type of habit that forms over a long period of time. It helps to recall events of the day, provides an outlet to let emotions or stresses be worked out, and can be very calming for the mind.

Memoirs on the other hand are like personal stories about your life. Most memoirs are factual, based on the writings' own experiences through their life. However, some memoir writers elaborate on their lives and can create more extravagant experiences, or come to new understandings of themselves, through their writing.

Use these prompts by adding one to each page of a book, or by using two or three at a time to create a more unique experience. For example: “Write a childhood memory, about a place you used to go as a child, and you made a big mistake, and you learned a valuable lesson”. The idea is to help you inspire, or just even get pen to paper (or fingers to keys).
